Discover the Lethelium

Every Lethelium begins as a wheel of motion — transformed into an instrument of resonance.
This page is your guide to unlocking its sound, understanding its anatomy, and learning how to play with freedom and intuition.

“There’s no wrong way to play — only new ways to listen.”

About the Lethelium

Learn the fundamentals of tuning, bowing, plucking, and maintaining your instrument with founder and creator Lateef Martin.

Lethelium Components

Rim Body

Upcycled 24-spoke wheel rim — lightweight, durable, and resonant.

Strings

24 tensioned strings designed for bowing, plucking, and percussive textures.

Gear Assemblies

Custom components that maintain balance and sustain vibration.

Tuners

Precision locking tuners for smooth adjustment and tonal accuracy.

Cups & Mounts

Provide resonance, stability, and the Lethelium’s iconic silhouette.

Contact Points

Sensitive areas for experimental sounds using bows, sticks, or hands.

How to Play

Bowing

Use a violin or cello bow to draw sound from individual strings or groups — long, evolving tones emerge from even the slightest motion.

Plucking

Create melodic or rhythmic passages by gently plucking or strumming across strings. Each combination produces rich, unpredictable overtones.

Percussive Techniques

Tap or scrape the frame to introduce rhythmic metallic tones — perfect for layering in ambient or experimental pieces.

Hybrid Exploration

Combine bowing and tapping, or use objects (felt mallet, e-bow, contact mic) to discover unique textures.

Maintenance & Care

  • Cleaning: Wipe down strings and frame after sessions to preserve tone and sheen.

  • String Replacement: Standard music store strings fit — follow our stringing guide or contact support for help.

  • Storage: Keep in case when not in use; avoid direct sunlight and moisture.

  • Repairs: Each instrument is hand-built — reach out to contact@lethelium.com for service or part replacements.
